MYSTICAL GRIEF WISDOM SCHOOL
A guided spiritual and somatic journey for women cracked open by loss, who cannot go back to who they were before. Together we walk the tender terrain of rebirth, so grief becomes Divine Wisdom instead of collapse.
Grief Can Be an Initiation Into a New Way of Being.
Grief breaks the heart open and cracks the first body open. The egoic structure shatters. And in that shattering, if someone is held in the right container with the right practices, the Soul Lightbody has room to crystallize into something that can hold. These practices are the food for this Light. The Second Body* is what gets built.
Cynthia Bourgeault teaches that the Second Body, also called the Kesdjan body or "wedding body", is "made up of quality and substance and energy, purified substance that has been transformed in this life through the conscious application." She describes it as finding "that within you which already lives beyond death and start to live out of it now."
The 6 Pillars of Mystical Grief
-
Staying in the present moment is the foundational pillar of walking through grief consciously, and opens your ability to tune into the imaginal realm. Present moment awareness helps you make even the most unbearable of moments bearable.
-
The Living Contemplations on Divine Becoming meet you right where you’re at, and as each new level of Truth you accept and become, they expand to meet you again and again.
-
Energetic healing practices through drumming, sound, voice, art, and movement, move the energy of grief through the nervous system so you don’t get stuck in grief. They also connect you with the imaginal realm so you can have a direct experience of your own soul and what it communicates to you. These land as what I call “Awe-Ha” moments of peace in the midst of grief.
-
Prayer, meditation and self-kindness can be what you want it to be. Prayer is how you communicate to the imaginal realm and learn to open the eye of the heart. Meditation offers you direct connection to receive, and loving self-kindness softens the heart and frees the mind from guilt, shame and remorse.
-
A community (like The Sisterhood) of people who support you and love and see you not only in your grief but also hold you in the light of your becoming is healing and powerful.
-
Purpose is revealed to you in time. As you walk these steps consistently, day after day, light begins to wash away the shadow and this culmination - what I was told is “Giving as Light” - is how you share your frequency and dharma with the world around you.

Joya is a contemplative mystic in the Christian wisdom tradition. She is a bridge between Earth and the imaginal realm, and she resonates and transmits this frequency to others through sound, art, and embodied prayer practices.
In February 2025, her 18-year-old son Weston died. This loss cracked her open and initiated her into the territory she now guides others through. The Mystical Grief Contemplations were transmitted to her through this doorway - received from Weston, lived in her own body, now offered to women walking this same sacred, devastating path.
She holds a Doctorate in Sacred Music, UCLA MAPS + Mindfulness certifications, and over 30 certifications in sound and visual healing arts across 33 years of practice. She is the host of That Mystic Podcast, and steward of That Mystic Center in Tempe Arizona.
She is the author of “Practical Spirituality” and the forthcoming book, “The Path of Mystical Grief”.
She works with women in her community, The Sisterhood, as well as 1:1 Guidance, and offers Sacred Sound, Movement and Art classes at her sacred center in Tempe Arizona.
